Think you can dance? Join National Dance Day at farmers market ...

In Lisa Robertson's opinion, she never goes to work, she goes to dance.

A dance instructor for nine years, Robertson, 36, is back to lead Hillsboro's festivities for 2013 National Dance Day. This year, the event is at the Civic Center Plaza on Saturday, sponsored by the Hillsboro Farmers Market and Hillsboro Parks and Recreation.

The initiative was launched in 2010 by "So You Think You Can Dance" co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe, aimed to encourage Americans to see dance as a fun way to keep healthy.
?
On July 31 of the same year, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced a congressional resolution declaring the last Saturday in July to be the country's official National Dance Day.
?
To coordinate participants nationwide, Dizzy Feet Foundation members and "So You Think You Can Dance" choreographers create instructional dance videos posted online at the Dizzy Feet Foundation website. This year's "Everybody Dance" and "Hip-Hop Master Class" routines will be performed by local events across the country.

Actress Summer Glau, who starred in the FOX television series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," is a board member of the Dizzy Feet Foundation, an organization she sought out because of her connection to dance.
?
The foundation's provision of scholarships for rising dancers is something that hits home for Glau.
?
Originally from south Texas, Glau began dancing when she was 5. In order to pay for dance classes, her parents would clean the studio. She pursued ballet into her twenties, which eventually landed her a role in her first television series, "Angel."
?

Even though her career has been more concentrated on acting, she credits her start in dance as helping her keep healthy, balanced and confident to play roles that require more strenuous physical activity.
?
She believes National Dance Day is important for exposing kids to dance and the recreational and professional possibilities than can follow.
?
"For children, even before they know what dance is, they're dancing," Glau said. "Dancing is a natural reaction to hearing music. It's something that's innately part of us."
?
Roberston's life is a great illustration. She has been involved in a host of dance troupes and classes ever since she was 5.
?
She first heard about National Dance Day last year when an announcement was made on an episode of "So You Think You Can Dance." Immediately, she started planning the logistics to host an event in Hillsboro.
?
In a grassy area behind Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center, Robertson said about 60 people showed up for the two hours of dancing.
?
She hopes this year?s move to the Civic Center Plaza will draw more people to the event, which will include cardio jam and zumba classes in addition to the two choreographed dances for National Dance Day. There will also be a special dance session for children, which adults can also participate in.

The finale of Hillsboro's event will include recording performances of the choreographed routines to send to the Dizzy Feet Foundation.
?
Robertson encourages people of all ages and dance abilities to come and jump in for any event that interests them.
?
"Fitness is my world and dancing is my passion," Robertson said. "Putting those things together makes working out fun." ?
