Detroit?s NAIAS will be the scene of Nissan?s newest concept vehicle, the Resonance. Outside the automaker?s inner circle, very little is known about the car, except for the ultra-futuristic rendering that came across the Nissan corporate newswire just this week. Tuesday, Jan. 15, will be the day that Resonance first resonates with the media, who are eager to see the Japanese automaker?s latest take on hybrid-electric design. A Nissan spokesperson provided the cryptic statement that Resonance is, ?the latest in a series of envelope-pushing crossover designs.? Whether the car ever sees the light of day in its present form, it gives us a good idea of where Nissan?s design language is headed.
The first half of 2013 looks to be a busy time for Nissan, who is not only making headlines with the above-mentioned Resonance concept at the Detroit Auto Show but is also commencing production of the Leaf electric car in Smyrna, Tenn. The 2013 Leaf will be equipped with some fresh features, namely an improved energy efficiency system, better aerodynamics, a reduced charging time, and improved energy management all around. Leaf will have a third trim level as well, with the company adding an S-grade, less costly version to the lineup. Leaf?s highest trim level, the SL grade, will see changes for 2013, including 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, leather seating, and other enhancements. Coming up for Leaf: Nissan will announce the new, higher range numbers just before the fresh EV hits showrooms.

The Resonance might be years from seeing retail showrooms, but the new Leaf option packages are already in place. For 2013, watch for Leaf EVs with ?Around View Monitor? systems, and an impressive Bose audio pack that enlists the power of seven speakers to create the ultimate listening experience.
